Do Your Doors Need Repairs? Here's What to Look For

Peetu Couri

There are often many doors in a home. Some lead to the outside and the rest lead to the various rooms of the house. If you really think about it, you might be surprised at how many doors you actually have to keep an eye on in order to make sure that repairs are made promptly. To help you know when it is time to call for professional door repair work, you will want to continue reading.

You Have To Lift The Door To Close It

If you have found that one or more of your doors have to be slightly lifted in order to get it past the frame and into a latched position, it is time for some repair work. The issue may simply be that the hinge is bad or the hinge screws are coming out of the wood because of stripping. You cannot just screw them back in place, because the hole for the screws will have widened too much. The screws will just fall right back out, causing the door to tilt enough so you have to lift it in order to close it.

The Door Keeps Getting Stuck When Closed

Opening and closing a door should happen with ease. Therefore, if you are struggling to get one or more of the doors in the house open, you will want to call for repair work. It could be that the house has settled over the years and this has caused the framework of the door to shift. Even the slightest change in positioning can make it very hard to open a closed door or to close an open door. This is because there will be a section of the door that will rub hard against the frame instead of having the little gap that should be there.

There Is A Lot Of Noise

A little bit of sound when you open and close a door can be common, especially if it is an older door. However, if it is making a lot of noise and that noise is starting to irritate members of the household, it is probably time to do something about it. The placement of the hinges might need to be changed, you might need a new door knob, or the frame of the door may need to be adjusted. Either way, a qualified contractor will be able to complete the work for you.

Try to call a contractor as soon as possible so you will not have to deal with a faulty door for too much longer.
